Nu Wave Swim Club NOW:
We are a year round competitive swim club with convenient locations in Uptown New Orleans at Newman School and the Tulane Reily Center. Our more advance groups practice at the UNO Lakefront Arena.
Nu Wave is one of the most comprehensive swimming programs in the Gulf South. With swimmers ranging from toddlers to adults, our program embraces the entire individual through effective and engaging coaches who teach our swimmers at every level.
Nu Wave is committed to developing quality individuals through swimming. We are building a nationally recognized aquatics program that teaches and trains all levels of competitive swimmers. We train and coach swimmers in the sport by teaching proper technique, physical fitness and healthy habits, while instilling "championship behavior" - the spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, integrity, hard work, and discipline. Nu Wave Swim Club builds confidence and character one stroke at a time.
Nu Wave has training groups swimming at the UNO Lakefront Arena (National, Senior, Senior-Prep and Varsity), the Tulane Reily Center (Cyclone and Tidal Wave), and Newman School (Varsity, White Caps, Riptide, Stroke School and Masters).
Our Head Coach determines group placements with input from individual group coaches. The dues for each individual are based on group placements. As a swimmer progresses through the program, he/she is offered more training and competition opportunities and dues reflect this progression.
Nu Wave Swim Club ORIGIN:
Nu Wave was founded in 1985 by it's original Head Coach, Jorge Blasini. The formation of the Nu Wave Swim Club came out of the discontinuation of the Tulane Swimming & Diving programs in the late 1970's. At that time, Tulane was associated with the Green Wave AAU Swim Program, and when the programs were discontinued, Blasini picked up the pieces and helped form Nu Wave a mile down the road at Newman School.
At that time, Blasini had coached for a number of years with the Tulane Programs. With the formation of Nu Wave, Blasini continued to be a major part of the Swimming Community as he went on to coach Jesuit High School to three High School State Championships, before becoming the Head Coach at Newman High School, where he guided Newman to 13 State Championships. In addition to this, Blasini became President of the New Orleans High School Swim League for 15 years, till his departure from the Program after Hurricane Katrina. During his 24 years in charge at Nu Wave, Blasini had grown a small program into a regional power, and with his influence, into a major player in the New Orleans Swimming environment.
