2025 Summer Long Course Season Recap

The 2025 long course season started off with loads of sunshine. First, Enzo and I traveled to Sacramento, CA to attend the TYR Pro Series event. This was a going to be Enzo's last national level competition with our team. It proved to be a great experience as swimmers from many collegiate programs and foreign national teams were present. Next, our senior groups attended the PCST Spring Invitational in Panama City, FL on the following weekend. With these two swim meets so early in our long course season, the main focus was to get familiar with the long course competition expectations.

Following these very early swim meets, our age group swimmers at Newman traveled with Coach Scott and Neil to Laurel, MS for ther first long course event. In mid-May, we all competed at the Crawfish Aquatics LC Invitational in Baton Rouge during the busy end-of-school period of our schedule.

2025 Nu Wave 5K

TAQ Tristan Vessel Invitational

Our late May focus event was the TAQ Tristan Vessel Invitational held at LSU. This meet brings in some fast regional talent and includes many LSU collegiate athletes for a much appreciated bump in competition.

Team Records: Cece Hunnicitt- 13-14 Girls 50 Breast (35.88) and Enzo Solitario- 50 Fly (24.20) and 400 Free (4:00.52). *Enzo's 50 Fly time also set a new State Record for the 17-18 age group.

Colorado Adventure

Another great trip to Colorado!

Activities and experiences: altitude and zero humidity, train with three Colorado swim teams, Colorado Rockies baseball, hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park and the Garden of teh Gods, taste of bison burgers and rocky mountain oysters, white water rafting, competition at the US Air Force Academy, and more...

LA Age Group LC State Championships: 4th Place Team

It is good to see us settling in to a strong team placement year over year. 20 swimmers scored individual points highlighted by Ian Budde and Tripp Yount who each totaled over 100 individual points.

Top 3 finishers: Miles Balmaceda (400 Free); Ian Budde (100 Back, 200 Free- Champion, 100 Fly, 400 Free- Champion, 200 IM- Champion, 100 Breast); Ellis Lilly (100 Fly, 400 Free); Eloise McCranie (100 Fly- Champion); Harrison Tschirn (200 Back); Trip Yount 1500 Free, 400 IM, 200 Fly- Champion, 400 Free, 800 Free)

LA Senior LC State Championships: 2nd Place Team

SZ Age Group Zone Championships

Tripp Yount represented Team Louisiana in Orlando, FL. Our state's swimmers compete against the top athletes from all the southern states (Florida, North Carolina, Texas, etc.). Tripp's top placement was in the 1500 Free finishing 11th.

SZ Senior Championships

9 Nu Wave swimmers competed in the SZ Senior Championships in Tupelo, MS. Although this event was a quick turnaround from our State Championships and swimmers were wroking through some new race strategies, we had a massive amount of second swims in Finals each day. Our results were highlighted by Rebecca Vindel achieving her first Sectional qualifying time inthe 200 Breast.

NCSA Summer Championships

4 Nu Wave swimmers competed in the NCSA Summer Championships in Huntsville, AL. Typically, this event is held in Indianapolis, IN and is one of the fastest 18&U swim meets in the country. This year, meet records were being knocked off left and right proving that the Huntsville facility is one of the top pools in the country. We will take a look at future schedules in an effort to get this facility into our rotation.

Both Nicolas Aldana and Logan Beebe placed well in individual events scoring point for our team.

Summer Junior Nationals

Enzo Solitario, representing the University of Wisconsin, competed in the Summer Junior Nationals in Irvine, CA. Enzo has a tremendous week scoring Top 8 in all of his events finishing as the champion in both 100 Fly and 200 Fly, 2nd in the 100 Free, 3rd in the 200 Free, and 7th in the 50 Free. All five events were new personal best times!

As much as we would have liked for Enzo to be in Nu Wave gear, it was the proper send-off to the next chapter in his swimming career. Enzo was able to work closely with the new Wisconsin staff and assist with the recruitment of future Badger teammates. We wish him and all of our departing swimmers the best of luck with their college swimming careers.
